One of the reasons I chose this mission of throwing a party every month, for a year, was to encourage me to actually use my stash of craft supplies. I have a strong desire to collect (cough, hoard) certain things in my life. Crafting supplies are definitely at the top of that list. My loft area, affectionately dubbed "The Craft Loft" is a legit mini-Michaels. These invitations are a prime example of using things I already owned, to create something I never would have made, had it not been for a neon-disco birthday party!
Now, let's get to the details! Starting with the back of the invite...
Many of Jason's friends and coworkers lovingly refer to him by his initials, JW. I rarely call him that, but I have always loved how the letters look and sound side-by-side. I made my own custom, JW stamp by taping the two individual letter stamps together. I'm a big fan of using stamps to create your own design, especially on blank space, like the back of this invite.
I love learning how other makers create. For these invitations, I wanted to show how I got from first draft to final product. Below, you can see how my colors, sizes, and fonts evolved along the way, until I found the look I was happy with.
The key for this project ended up being spacing. Once I tried splitting the card in half with the use of the black and white triangle patterned tape, everything else fell in to place. Having it in the middle brought a much needed structure to the 4x6 space. After that, it was easy for me to fill in the top and bottom halves with the title, and the details.
I loved using washi tape: it was flexible to work with, and didn't take any time to dry, like paint would have.
Also, fair warning, I have a feeling this won't be the last time we see the "we're having a party" stamp.
Instead of a paper envelope liner like last month, I simply colored with a highlighter on the inside of the envelope. The neon added pop, without the added bulk of paper. Washi tape came in handy on the outside of the envelopes, too!
Even though I knew Buster was going to be at Spring Training in Arizona, I still wanted to send an invitation. Who knows, maybe he'll make it to Party No. 4?
