For this Ladies Sleepover, I tried to stick to decor that made the space feel playful, fun and girly. After I shifted my theme from "Indoor Camping" to "Girls Only Adult Sleepover" I decided to use the supplies I already had on hand. I recently organized ALL my craft/party materials in an effort to streamline my storage, so I knew what stuff I had extras of. I had plenty of streamers and tissue paper, plus the black and white pin wheels I bought but didn't get to use, for the Bocce Ball Party. By making loads of textured streamers I achieved the goal of creating a soft and easy, twinkle-lit dream land.
I spent most of my prep time for this party sewing together streamers to create the frayed and texturized look, seen in the photos above and below. I lined up three streamers and ran them through my sewing machine. After they were connected, I folded them in half and cut little slits in them. Once I placed them on the wall, over the mantel, and tangled within the twinkle lights, I fluffed them up to create some extra dimension. The process was a lot like the the one I used for the photo booth backdrop from my New Year's Party.
While looking at these pictures, the idea came to me to try this project with different colored crepe paper. Maybe I'll be super trendy and go ombre!
White streamers with the twinkle lights created a killer glow. I can see using these in place of tinsel garland on the inside of a Christmas tree.
I freehand cut a zig zag pattern into the light pink streamer seen above. Cutting shapes like triangles and circles into the single sheets of crepe paper added an additional layer to the decor.
I made a "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" banner, for above the food table, with grey card stock and a little hot pink ribbon.
I feel like Cyndi Lauper would approve of the '80's color scheme for this Girls Only event. Because, it is true, girls just want to have fun(damental rights).
