For my Mom's most recent birthday, we decided to celebrate by throwing a low key brunch at home for her, and some of her closest girlfriends. I was inspired by the spring decor at Target, where I picked up the robin's egg blue table runner and linen placemats. I used cloth napkins that I already had on hand, and I painted wooden tags to coordinate with the table scape, to use as place cards.
For the flowers, I picked up nine hydrangea stems from Trader Joe's (always my go-to for floral needs) and placed them in mason jars centered in the middle of the table. They were so full and the perfect compliment to the light and creamy color story I was going for. The bunches of flowers grouped together felt very Martha Stewart- in the best way. The "CELEBRATE" banner came from the party section at Target.
My Mom's family has a fantastic collection of photos from their childhood. I chose some gems of my Mom and her siblings, and pinned them up to a ribbon for a cute display. I love how the black and white photos look against the baby blue clothespins. For favors, I filled smaller mason jars with my Mom's favorite candy (peanut M&Ms) and wrapped the same ribbon from the napkins around the lids. It ended up being the perfect sweet treat to send guests home with after a filling meal.
The menu consisted of a Spinach Bacon Quiche with Hashbrown Crust from The Gingham Apron, Stonewall Kitchen Orange Cranberry Scones, and a Mixed Berry Fruit Salad. I made the scones the night before, but saved cutting the fruit and making the quiche for the morning of. The trickiest part of the quiche was the cooking time, once we had all the ingredients mixed and the quiche in the oven. Other than that, I think the meal was a great mix of light, yet satisfying. The hashbrown crust is quiche game changing- you've got to try it!
It was so delightful to spend the afternoon relaxing and reminiscing with my Mom and her dear friends. In addition to being such a great example to me and my sister, these friendships have been a huge blessing in my Mom's life. To have these wonderful ladies over was the perfect way to celebrate this milestone birthday for my terrific Mom.
